Presidential Inauguration Day

Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 ,a history is being made.This is a day for the history books. A day for President elect Barack Hussain Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America.The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the steps of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., and Mr. Obama is set to make his inauguration speech at around 11:30 EST. Once completing his inaugural address, the new President will attend the departure ceremony of President George W. Bush. Following the ceremony, President Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden, and family members will be attend a luncheon hosted by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. The inaugural parade will follow the luncheon and is set to start around 2:30 p.m. EST, with the majority of the parade route being free for public viewing.

It will be great celebration for Obama. He had spent 150 million dolar for this celebration.

Inaugural Luncheon
After the ceremony is completed, President Obama will attend the traditional Inaugural Luncheon at the U.S. Capitol following the departure ceremony for George W. Bush. Neither is open to the public.

Inaugural Parade
After this luncheon, according to tradition, President Obama and Vice President Biden will lead the Inaugural Parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House. The President, Vice President, and their wives and guests review the parade from a special platform.

Neighborhood Inaugural Ball
President Obama has initiated this ball as the first-ever during an Inauguration. It will be the “premiere” ball of the Inaugural Day evening events. It will be held at the Washington Convention Center - Hall D. The ball will include webcasting, text messaging and other interactive components. It will be the first ball that Barack and Michelle attend. It will be broadcast on ABC TV. Doors open at 5 p.m. EST and the event begins at 7 p.m. EST. Ticket required.

Commander-in-Chief’s Ball
This ball will be held at the National Building Museum. Invited guests will include enlisted active duty and reserve military. Ticket required.

Youth Inaugural Ball
This ball is for Americans ages 18 to 35. It will be held at the Washington Hilton. Ticket required. Kanye West and Kid Rock headline. It will be broadcast on MTV at 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PT.

Invited Illinois and Hawaii friends and invited guests attend this ball at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center - Hall E. Ticket required.

Obama Express Going To Washington

President-elect Barack Obama landed in Philadelphia on Friday.He stayed at the Sheraton hotel overnight and this morning, he's preparing to ride the “Inauguration Express.”

Obama will board a train to Washington where he will be inaugurated on Tuesday as 44th President of the United States.

Riding a vintage railcar on his whistle-stop trip to Washington, Obama carried with him the hopes of a nation weary of war, frightened of economic chaos and searching for better days. Vice President-elect Joe Biden joined the journey en route, from his home in Delaware, and spoke for many when he said he was excited and ready for Tuesday.

Obama was smiling and confident throughout the day and across the miles, reaching at each stop for history's lessons. In Philadelphia, he noted the risks taken by the men who declared America independent from Britain. In Wilmington, he applauded the state that first ratified the Constitution. And in Baltimore, he hailed the troops at Fort McHenry who beat back the British navy and inspired the poem that became "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Washington pulsed with anticipation of Obama's swearing in as the nation's first black president. The city was aflutter with preparations for four days of parties and pomp, shadowed at every turn by layer upon layer of security. For every banner or piece of bunting that was going up around the city, there was a concrete barrier or metal fence at the ready as well.

For traveler Obama, there was a celebratory air as his train pulled out of the station at Philadelphia.

Obama's blue rail car was tacked onto the back of a 10-car Amtrak train filled with hundreds of guests, reporters and staff for the 137-mile ride to Washington. Along the way, Obama and his wife, Michelle, appeared on the back balcony periodically to wave to shivering crowds bundled up in blankets and parkas who had gathered by the dozens, the hundreds and more along the route.

Obama's 135-mile tour from Philadelphia to Washington is meant to mirror President Abraham Lincoln's 1861 journey by train for his inauguration.

The Amtrak train starts at 30th street station this morning.

It will pass through the heart of Chester, Delaware County.

The train will then stop in Wilmington to pick up Vice-President elect Joe Biden and his family before going to Washington.

Obama ran for president for all children

In a letter to his daughters, Barack Obama said that he entered the race for the White House "because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation."

"When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me,about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world,I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfilment in yours. In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation," Obama said in the letter published in Parade magazine

The 47-year-old father of Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, said he wants to "push the boundaries" of discovery to encourage the development of new technology and inventions that improve lives and protect the environment.

"These are the things I want for you, to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world,and I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure," wrote Obama.
