A brother of Fil-Am singer apl de ap of the Black Eyed Peas was killed in Angeles City, Pampanga past midnight Tuesday.
Police say a brother of Philippine-born hip-hop singer apl.de.ap of the popular group Black Eyed Peas has been fatally shot in their northern hometown.
Chief Inspector Wilfredo Paulo said Joven Pineda Deala was shot in the head early Tuesday as he and his girlfriend were eating in his car that was parked outside the woman's home in Angeles City.
He says the gunman and his accomplice escaped on foot. The 21-year-old Deala died on the way to the hospital.
Paulo says the attack was apparently without provocation and investigators are looking for a possible motive.
Joven Pineda Deala, a resident of 361 Sto Niño Subdivision, Barangay Sta. Cruz, Porac, Pampanga, succumbed to gunshot wound in the head, said Senior Supt. Pierre Bucsit, director of the Angeles City Police Office.
Pineda is the brother of Allan Pineda, who is more popularly known as apl de ap. The Black Eyed Peas member is set to fly back to the Philippines Wednesday.
Police said Pineda was about to leave his home on board a gray Toyota Fortuner (ZLT-694) when a man sporting a bullcap appeared beside him and shot him at point blank range past 1 a.m.
The victim's girlfriend, Elaine Torres, 26, told police investigators that she noticed two unidentified men suspiciously approaching their vehicle before the incident. She said the two men walked fast heading toward Bliss area and went back moments later.
She said Pineda even told her to stay in the vehicle until the two suspicious men left. She said one of the gunmen then approached Pineda from behind and shot him.
The gunman then fled on foot with several other suspects towards Magalang Avenue, Marisol Subdivision.
Police said the bullet pierced through Pineda's right upper cheek but did not kill him at once. The victim managed to drove his sports utility vehicle (SUV) some meters away from the crime scene and shouted for help.
Neighbors rushed the victim to Angeles University Foundation (AUF) Hospital where he died.
Scene of the crime investigators recovered one spent shell for 9mm pistol at the place of incident.
Police investigators are eyeing love triangle angle as the possible motive behind the gunslaying.
Torres, however, dismissed the love triangle angle stressing that she and her ex-husband had parted amicably.
"Whoever it is who did this to my boyfriend, I hope you get caught," she said.
Remains of Joven Pineda were brought to barangay Sapang Bato in Angeles City.
Deala was a half-brother of apl.de.ap, whose real name is Allan Pineda Lindo. Reports say he will attend his brother's funeral. No date has been set.
