Because of rainy weather, two large boulders slipped off the hillside at 10:30 a.m,spilling onto the eastbound lane of the road near Sand Harbor State Park.State Route 28 closed for about an hour and a half

On the rock slide tragedy,no motorists were injured and no vehicles were damaged by the falling rocks, said Leslie Barnes,a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Support Specialist. All the road need to be closed for a while until the rock is move.

They moved the boulders about 100 yards east and dumped them next to the road, Barnes said.

After 1 hour work to clear the road, traffic continued to move through the area using only the one lane until the situation was cleared at about 11:45 a.m.

Thursday’s rain, which was heavy at times, caused the rocks to slip onto the roadway, Barnes said.
