Murder has once again come to the campus of Virginia Tech. This time, one person is dead and another is in custody and police say the weapon involved was a knife. It happened near a very busy part of the campus.Virginia Tech Police received a 911 On Wednesday, Jan 21, at 7:06 p.m reporting that a female was being assaulted in the cafe at the Graduate Life Center at Donaldson-BrownShortly after 7:00 Wednesday evening police were called to the 1st floor Graduate Life Center and found a female Asian, international graduate student on the floor with stab wounds, already dead.The also found a male Asian grad student nearby and took him into custody without incident. Police say he made it clear to officers that he did it. They say there were also several witnesses.
Students were warned at 7:44 p.m. to stay in place in an alert sent by e-mail and text message. After a suspect was taken into custody, students were told about an hour later they could resume normal activity.
At 8:37 p.m. the school's Web site confirmed that someone was in custody and urged students to avoid the area but otherwise resume normal activity.
University spokesman Mark Owczarski tells that the suspect is male and that police found a knife they believe was the murder weapon.
